Fala Chen joined the industry for almost six years and she already has a stable position as lead actress. She has both success and love. She has dated Neway’s successor, Sit Sai Hang for five years. But she has an independent personality and is not like most girls. For rumors about her requesting her boyfriend to buy her a luxurious flat, she responds by saying, “This is not the truth, since I was young, my mother taught me that girls should always have their own money at all times. Using my own money is really being independent.” She has independent thoughts and a unique personality, no wonder Mr. Sit loves her.
After TVB’s “My Sister of Eternal Flower", Charmaine Sheh left TVB’s management, TVB obviously wants to focus their time and money on Fala Chen, Linda Chung, Kate Tsui and Tavia Yeung, and so they can succeed Charmaine. For being attractive, you cannot forget Fala, her acting is becoming more and more mature, has both male and female fans and she has a hardworking spirit within her. She takes advantage of any chance she has, so whether it is, “Lives of Omission” or “Palace Schemes of East and West”, Fala is the female lead. Asking her what her thoughts are for the “One Sister” position, she says, “This is just a title people give. Honestly, to me, I feel that the girls from our company, such as Tavia, Linda, Kate and I are very equal in our success. Our personality and style are very different. I will only focus on doing my best and will not fight for anything; however when I first began to lead a drama, such as in “Links of Temptation”, I finally felt what pressure and stress was.”
Fala is one of TVB Siu Sang and Fa Dan’s who openly admit that they are in a relationship. When she heard the reporters say that, her reply was straight forward, “I also hope that my relationship could be private, so no one would bother us and we would have more personal space, but since the beginning, people were always following us, so of course you will know about it. I don’t like to lie. I always like to separate work and relationships because relationships always have its ups and downs, two people always need to develop and manage a good relationship, and so I would like to have a good balance between work and relationships.”
For many girls, having a sweet dating life, is like an energy shot that allows them to do well in their career. For Fala, dating gives her positive energy which allows her to focus completely on acting. “Because my parents spend most of their time in the United States, they are rarely in Hong Kong, so even if I tell them my problems, it will just confuse them, so my boyfriend is the one I tell everything to, such as problems I have at work,” says Fala. In this industry, whether it is dramas or commercials, being sexy is inevitable. Fala’s boyfriend does not mind. “He never prevented me from doing anything. He is a good listener, helps me read my scripts at times, and supports me, so I really need to thank him.”
Besides having her boyfriend to love her, her parents also provide her with tons of support. “Mommy and Daddy know me really well and trust me a lot. They have always allowed me to pick whatever I wanted in life and gave me a lot of freedom. They do not control my work, for example, if I am a bad character or if I have to be sexy. My dad doesn’t feel that wearing bikinis is that big of a deal because when people go swimming, everyone wears it, including my mom, so I don’t understand the big reaction from outsiders. My parents live overseas, so they are bit more open.”
It has been reported earlier that Fala brought her parents to the mountain tops to look at billion dollar luxury flats that she requested her boyfriend to buy for her. Fala responded by saying, “That is not the truth. That day I brought my mom and a relative to the mountain tops for a walk and this is what I get in return? I’m in this industry, so I don’t mind these reports on me, but showing my family’s faces, really got me sad. As for buying houses, I’m very independent economically. When I was young, my mom taught me, at all times, girls should always have their own money because using your own money is really being independent. I have no plans for buying houses at the moment.”
These few years, Fala has been working hard to make a lot of money. Reporter asks, “Do you have plans one buying houses for investment or for yourself to live?” She replies, “During the financial crisis, I bought a house for my parents in the United States. Because the United States estate prices haven’t really gone up, so we use the house to live for ourselves. In Hong Kong, houses are way too expensive, buying millions of dollars for a house is impossible. I have to work hard to make more money before I think about it. Being an actor, our income has its ups and downs, but I actually have a pretty stable income. I have to plan well before I buy a house because I don’t want to buy it and then run out of money to pay for it. So as of now, I have no plans of buying houses in Hong Kong. I actually will do some stable investing. I have already bought the ibond and TVB stocks. Being part of TVB, it makes me feel more comfortable buying it, there is a stable and good return in money.”
